Balmenach 2008 is a rare bottling of this whisky as a single malt from independent bottlers Gordon and Macphail The whisky was not chill-filtered and no colouring was added to it. This particular expression was matured in Refill Sherry Butt and Refill Bourbon Barrels. It has a nice and delicate palate with fruity notes and a malty, fruit-bitters finish.
It was founded in 1824 by a member of the McGregor family. the distillery remained in family hands until 1922 when a group of whisky blenders bought the distillery. The distillery was bought and sold a number of times. It was not until 1997 that the current owners (Inver House Distillers) acquired the distillery. The production capacity was increased in 1962 by adding an extra pair of stills. Just two years after that the floor maltings were decommissioned and a Saladin box was installed. The distillery has been producing the wonderful Caorunn gin
