Benromach Contrasts Peat Smoke
This superb and unique Speyside whisky is distilled in very small batches. The barley is peated to an impressive 55ppm and the new make spirit is then aged exclusively in first fill Bourbon barrels. The whisky is then bottled un chill filtered at 46% ABV. Expect vanilla pods on fire, lemon sherbet and smoky bonfire embers undertones.
Benromach distillery
Benromach distillery is located close to Forres in the Speyside region. It was founded in 1898 and produced its first batch of spirit in 1900. From there it went through numerous changes of ownership and intermittent periods of production. The distillery was modernised between 1966 and 1974. It continued producing whisky until 1983 when the distillery fell silent.
Ten years later, the distillery was acquired by its current owners, Gordon & Macphail. After running numerous trials the first batch of spirit under the new ownership was produced in 1998. The 10 year old single malt was awarded 'Best single malt 12 year and under' by the World Whisky Awards in 2014.
By using a fermentation period of between 3 and 5 days, cloudy wort, shell and tubes to cool the spirit and a reflux ball, the character of Benromach is robust and bold.
