Charatan Pipe Tobacco
Pipe maker Frederick Charatan set up a shop in London in 1863 where he manufactured Meerschaum pipes. As the pipes grew in popularity briar pipes were also produced, these pipes became famous for their quality. The business was inherited by Reuben Charatan in 1910 and remained family owned until 1960.
Dunhill of London introduced the Charatan brand of cigars in the 1990's, this brand was only available in the British market. The cigar brand proved to be popular for its quality and price point. In 2016 British America Tobacco (owners of Dunhill) took the decision to withdraw from the UK market of pipes and pipe tobacco.
Tor Imports approached Dunhill and purchased the rights to the brand Charatan. A range of pipe tobacco blends was created with the intention of re creating the flavours of the discontinued Dunhill blends. The current Charatan range of pipe tobacco is the result of months of arduous work creating top quality blends from some of the finest tobacco available.
