Dailuaine 2002 Connoisseurs Choice was independently bottled by Gordon & Macphail based in Elgin. This particular expression was matured in Refill Sherry Butt and Refill Sherry Hogshead. The whisky has a very delicate Sherry Aromas with dried fruits and orange peel. The palate has hints of ripe banana, mango and lingering milk chocolate edge.
Dailuaine distillery profile
Dailuaine distillery was built in 1852. This distillery was the first one ever to feature a 'pagoda' style roof, this type of roof is a common sight in the Speyside area these days. The distillery was acquired by whisky giant Diageo in 1998 and has remained an important component of this company's blends ever since. Surprisingly, the single malt whisky from this distillery was not included in the expanded 'Classic Malts Selection' portfolio in 2004. Maybe this is due to the fact that around 98% of the whisky produced at Dailuaine distillery ends up in the Johnnie Walker blends.
Gordon and Macphail
Founded in Elgin in 1895 as a 'family grocers, tea, wine and spirits merchants'. Today the company is still family managed and has a legendary status among independent bottlers. It could even be said that Gordon and Macphail started the independent bottlings trade in the mid 1960s. When they released casks of single malt whisky from various distilleries, many of those distilleries didn't even have an official single malt release. Gordon and Macphail has its very own whisky distillery: Benromach in Forres, Morayshire.
