Dallas Dhu 34 year old

Dallas Dhu distillery

Dallas Dhu distillery was built at the very end of the 19th century in 1899. The distillery was built very close to the Aviemore-Forres railway and had access to a reliable source of water. After the distillery was bought by Distillery Company Limited (DCL)in 1929, it was destroyed by a fire in 1936. The distillery was promptly re-built and was ready to start distilling in 1939. This did not happen as the Second World War started and the distillery remained closed until 1947. The distillery went through major refurbishments and innovations in the 1950's and 1960's before it closed again in 1983. This time the distillery closed down for good and its distilling license was withdrawn in 1992. These days the buildings of the former distillery are used as a museum.

Gordon and Macphail independent bottlers

Founded in Elgin in 1895 as a 'family grocers, tea, wine and spirits merchants'. Today the company is still family managed and has a legendary status among independent bottlers. It could even be said that Gordon and Macphail started the independent bottlings trade in the mid 1960s. When they released casks of single malt whisky from various distilleries, many of those distilleries didn't even have an official single malt release. Gordon and Macphail has its very own whisky distillery: Benromach in Forres, Morayshire.
