Glenallachie 10 year old Virgin Oak Series Spanish Oak Finish
The Glenallachie 10 year old Spanish Virgin Oak is a remarkable single malt Scotch whisky that has been carefully crafted and matured for a decade in specially selected Spanish virgin oak casks. This particular expression showcases the distillery's dedication to producing exceptional whiskies with distinct flavor profiles.
This particular wood was sourced from the regions of Galicia and Asturias, specifically from the forests of the Cantabrian Mountains, which have a cool, humid climate.
The oak was air dried for around 18 months and then toasted and charred to a medium level, opening up the oak to allow our complex spirit to extract its cask character. The secondary ageing in these virgin casks deepened the mahogany hue of the whisky and created a palate rich with dried fruits, maraschino cherries and hints of stem ginger.
Glenallachie distillery
Glenallachie distillery was built in 1967 by Mackinlays, a subsidiary of Scottish and Newcastle breweries. Mackinlays saw the need to build a distillery given the demand for Scotch whisky from the American market. During the difficult 1980's Invergordon distillers acquired Mackinlays. They didn't hold it for long, four years after they took over, they sold the mothballed distillery to a subsidiary of Pernod-Ricard: Campbell Distillers.
The whisky from this distillery is rarely seen as as a single malt. Independent bottlings are few. In 2017 Glenallachie was sold to legendary distiller Billy Walker. A new range of single malts was launched in 2018.
