Glenallachie Rioja Cask 13 year old
This golden bronze single malt scotch whisky obtains its nutty and honeyed character from carefully sourced Rioja Barriques of Spanish Oak, with a medium level of toasting. Rioja hails from Spain’s most renowned wine region and delivers sophisticated fruit notes. These Barriques were bottled when the influences of the distillery and wood reached complete harmony. This expression is bottled unchilfiltered for flavour with no added colouring at 48% ABV.
Glenallachie distillery was built in 1967 by Mackinlays, a subsidiary of Scottish and Newcastle breweries. Mackinlays saw the need to build a distillery given the demand for Scotch whisky from the American market. During the difficult 1980's Invergordon distillers acquired Mackinlays. They didn't hold it for long, four years after they took over, they sold the mothballed distillery to a subsidiary of Pernod-Ricard: Campbell Distillers.
The whisky from this distillery is rarely seen as as a single malt. Independent bottlings are few. In 2017 Glenallachie was sold to legendary distiller Billy Walker. A new range of single malts was launched in 2018.
