Kilchoman 100% Islay
This unique single malt Scotch Whisky was released by Kilchoman distillery as part of their 100% Islay range of whiskies. As the name implies, the barley used to make this whisky was grown in Islay at the Kilchoman farm. Not only that, from the fermenting to the bottling, every step took place in Islay. Few whiskies from that famous Island can claim to be 100% Islay
100% Islay 8th Edition
This is a superb vatting of 23 bourbon barrels and 7 Oloroso sherry butts filled between 2008 and 2012. Only 12,000 bottles released worldwide. The barley for this expression was peated at 20ppm: which is slightly lower than the ppm of the core range. The key difference between this and previous batches is the addition of sherry cask maturation.
100% Islay 9th Edition
This long anticipated release from Kilchoman distillery was distilled using their 2007 and 2009 barley crops. The 9th edition is a vatting of 43 ex-bourbon barrels matured for over 9 years in Kilchoman's own on-site dunnage warehouses. Only 12,000 bottles were released to the world at large. The 9th Edition marks a return to the bourbon barrel maturation of previous 100% Islay releases.
100% Islay 10th Edition
The 100% Islay 10th Edition was distilled from the 2007, 2009 and 2010 barley harvests before being matured in 39 bourbon barrels and 2 oloroso sherry butts for a minimum of 9 years. There were just 12400 bottles released world wide.
Kilchoman distillery is located on Islay. When it started operations it was the first distillery to be built there in some 124 years. The distillery carries out all the stages of the whisky making process on Islay. Some 25% of its malted barley is sourced from the local fields surrounding the site.
Kilchoman distillery has expanded its prodcution capacity once and will do so again in 2018. For such a young distillery it has been a fantastic first decade. It looks like the future is smiling to them.
