The Heavily Peated Kilkerran represents a distinct departure from the distillery’s traditionally lightly peated single malts. Produced at a phenol level of approximately 45 PPM, this expression is bottled at cask strength and released twice annually. While maturation may vary from batch to batch, the whisky is most commonly aged in a predominance of ex-Bourbon casks, which help to balance the robust peat smoke with layers of sweetness and complexity.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch3\u003e\u003cspan style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"\u003eGlengyle Distillery\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOne of the oldest distilleries in Campbeltown, Glengyle was founded in 1872 by William Mitchell who then sold the buildings and distillery in 1919. In 1925 the distillery was closed down. Over 75 years later, William Mitchell's great great nephew has since bought the old buildings and rebuilt GlenGyle distillery. Previous attempts to reopen it in the 1940's and 1950's failed.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn 2004 it officially started production again and has released 7 limited edition\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cem\u003e'Work in Progress'\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003ewhiskies. In 2016 the distillery released its 12 year old whisky under the name Kilkerran.
