Balmenach 2011 Cask No. 121 Berry Bros & Rudd

Upon the initial sniff, zesty and grassy notes emanate from the glass, followed by vibrant green fruits and the scent of oranges. The palate exhibits a delightful citrusy profile, featuring tangy Granny Smith apples and a pleasing hint of spirit sulfur. The finish introduces elements of grilled lime, barley sweets, and a subtle touch of hay. This dram is thoroughly satisfying and showcases its distillate-driven character.

Balmenach Distillery

Balmenach distillery is located in Cromdale, Moray in the Speyside whisky region. The legal Balmenach distillery was built in 1824. This made Balmenach one of the first few distilleries to be licensed under the Excise Act 1823.

In the second half of the 19th century the distillery was connected to the Strathspey Railway line with its own railway track. In the 20th century the distillery changed hands a couple of times and in 1997 Inver House distillers acquired it. Caorunn gin is produced at the distillery today.

The distillery uses a short fermentation period and small pot stills. This produces a thick and rich spirit that blenders use to add body and character to their blends. At the time of writing, Inver House distillers has no plans to release Balmenach as a single malt. Some independent bottlings are sometimes available.

Berry Bros & Rudd

Berry Bros. & Rudd is a renowned British wine and spirits merchant, with a rich history that dates back over 300 years. Founded in 1698 by a widow named Bourne, the company began as a modest storefront in London's St. James's neighborhood, selling a range of goods, including tea, coffee, spices, and wines. Over time, the company's focus shifted towards wine and spirits, and it established itself as a reputable and trusted purveyor of fine beverages.

Throughout its long history, Berry Bros. & Rudd has played a significant role in the world of wine and spirits, earning a reputation for excellence, quality, and expertise. The company has been family-owned for generations and is currently owned and managed by the Berry and Rudd families, who have continued to uphold the company's traditions and values.

One of Berry Bros. & Rudd's most notable contributions to the world of spirits is its expertise in selecting and bottling exceptional whiskies. The company has a long-standing reputation as an independent bottler, hand-picking casks of whisky from various distilleries and bottling them under its own label. This has led to the release of many sought-after and limited-edition whiskies, which are highly prized by collectors and enthusiasts.
