Old Pulteney Distillery

Founded in 1826 during the 'Herring boom'. Old Pulteney distillery was built in Pulteney town, a fishing village. Apart from a 21 years closure between 1930 and 1951, this distillery has been almost continuously in operation for most of its life. Legend has it that the pot stills at the distillery were commissioned from an English company and were too tall to be housed in the distillery's still house. The distillery manager at the time, decided to saw the neck of the pot stills, bend them and weld them. The shape of the stills s now celebrated in every bottle of Old Pulteney single malt.
