Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Whisky from the most famous of Scotland's Whisky producing Islands. The most southern of the Inner Hebrides islands, Islay Produces the most famous of Scotland's Peated Single Malts.
Islay is the most fertile of the Western isles. It also has plenty of peat, these two factors make Islay an ideal whisky making territory. Illicit distillation was a serious problem on the island in the 18th century. Given that no Excise officers were present there until 1797, the locals relished in the production of their own spirit without having to pay taxes.
Illegal distillation and the smuggling of spirit continued until at least the mid 19th century. During that century some 21 distilleries operated on Islay. Most of them closed down within just a few years of starting distillation.
Today Islay is renowned world wide for its rich, smokey and phenolic malts. Our selection of whiskies from this island offers something for everyone.
