Charatan Cigars

In 1863, Frederick Charatan laid the foundation for the Charatan legacy by opening a tobacco shop on Mansell Street in London. Throughout its rich history, Charatan has been marked by various captivating narratives, including the involvement of the Charatan family until 1960 and the production of exclusive and highly sought-after cigars by Dunhill Tobacco of London in the 1990s, which propelled Charatan to become the top Nicaraguan brand in the UK. Now, over 150 years later, the Charatan story continues to unfold.

Four years ago, Tor Imports Ltd acquired Charatan from Dunhill Tobacco of London, driven by the vision of enhancing the product range and revitalizing the brand.

In 2018, we embarked on the first step of this journey by relocating the production of Charatan cigars to Joya De Nicaragua, the oldest and most esteemed factory in the country. This transition ensured the preservation of the unique blend of premium tobaccos and enabled us to offer a handcrafted, high-quality cigar at an affordable price. And now, the time has come for the next chapter in the Charatan story, accompanied by a transformation that embodies the ambition and aspirations of Tor Imports Ltd as the custodian of the brand. As we enter the Roaring Twenties, we are embarking on a reimagining of Charatan, combining its rich legacy and mythical allure with a vibrant future. The dancing unicorn, an emblem of individuality deeply rooted in British culture, takes center stage, while the azure and white band serves as a nod to Nicaragua, evoking the essence of the country. This fusion of Nicaraguan cigar craftsmanship and British heritage is a distinctive hallmark of Charatan, a heritage that has been cherished for over a century and a half.
