Description
Aberfeldy 16 year old 5CL
Aberfeldy 16 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky is a distinguished expression from the Aberfeldy distillery, often referred to as the "Golden Dram." This premium whisky is celebrated for its rich and complex flavor profile, exuding notes of honey, citrus, and spiced cloves. Its sherry influence lends a deep, fruity character, reminiscent of fruitcake, while layers of rich dark chocolate unfold into a smooth, mouth-coating finish.
This whisky’s origins are rooted in the Aberfeldy distillery, located on land known for its natural gold deposits, which historically enriched the area's freshwater supply. The whisky is aged in first-fill Oloroso sherry casks, enhancing its fruit-forward notes and adding a well-rounded depth. Aberfeldy 16 is best enjoyed neat, chilled, or in classic cocktails like an Old Fashioned or the signature Golden Dram, making it an ideal companion for sharing memorable moments with friends.
Aberfeldy Distillery
Aberfeldy distillery was opened in 1898 by the John Dewar and Sons company. It remained operational until 1917 when barley shortages forced it to close down. It reopened in 1919 and produced whisky intended for blends until the Second World War broke out.
During the war the distillery remained shut. After the war concluded and barley shortages were over, the demand for Aberfeldy whisky caused stock shortages. The whisky was laid for just 3 years as opposed to the usual 7 years.
Not much happened at the distillery for a couple of decades until 1972 when it was enlarged and four steam-heated stills were installed. Production continued and in 1999 a 12 year old single malt was released. A year later, a visitor centre was opened to the public.
