Benrinnes 15 year old Flora & Fauna 70cl
This 15 year old Benrinnes is indeed a very interesting dram, the only Speysider to be triple-distilled like a Lowland malt or Irish whiskey, but with a lot more body and character than either of those styles. Impressive stuff.
Benrinnes is a Speyside distillery located in Aberlour. The original distillery was founded in 1826 but was destroyed by a flood three years later. It was rebuilt at its current location and operated without major incidents. Like most distilleries in the 19th century, it went through various changes of ownership. When the distillery was damaged by a fire in 1896, it was refurbished and powered by electricity.
The distillery was again rebuilt in 1955 by John Dewar and Sons. Some eleven years later, the production capacity was doubled. In the 1970's the distillery adopted a unique triple distillation method. This distillation method was abandoned in 2007.
The flavours of Benrinnes derive from the distillery's usage of worm tubes to cool the neck of the stills, a short fermentation period of 60 hours and clear wort.
