Kilchoman Sanaig is a rather interesting release from Islay's newest distillery. The Sanaig expression is an enjoyable peaty single malt. It has been matured in ex-bourbon and Sherry casks. It's named after a small, rocky creek near the distillery on the west coast of the island. Look out for plenty of fruit and earthy peat coming through on this one, with a touch of dark chocolate-covered raisins.
Kilchoman distillery is located on Islay. When it started operations it was the first distillery to be built there in some 124 years. The distillery carries out all the stages of the whisky making process on Islay. Some 25% of its malted barley is sourced from the local fields surrounding the site.
Kilchoman distillery has expanded its prodcution capacity once and will do so again in 2018. For such a young distillery it has been a fantastic first decade. It looks like the future is smiling to them.
