Tabacalera Oliva

Founder Melanio Oliva started growing tobacco in Pinar del Rio, Cuba, in 1886. In the 1920's his son Facundo Oliva took control of the company. In the 1960's Facundo Oliva swapped growing for brokering tobacco and continued to do so until his departure. Wanting to grow tobacco outside of Cuba with the intention of replicating the Cuban taste he settled in Nicaragua where he planted Cuban seed tobacco. Today the Oliva brand is the second largest cigar producer in Nicaragua. The brand was acquired in 2016 by Belgian cigar manufacturer J. Cortes and received a new lease of life as well as upgraded production facilities.
