Fully matured in Melbourne without a peat bog in sight - as crazy as it sound that the charatcter of this suoperb expression.
This is truly unique dram as peated, smoky whisky barrels meet red-wine-barrel-aged single malt. Islay, Scotland melds with Melbourne, Australia. And old worlds and new worlds collide. Simply speaking this whisky started it's maturation process in red wine barrels wher it got it's dry, dark fruits flavours. Then it was wisked into barrels direct from Islay’s finest distilleries would give our whisky a peat character never yet tasted in Starward.
Starward Distillery
Founded in 2007 by David Vitale in Melbourne, Australia. Production has doubled since the brand moved to a purpose-built distillery in Melbourne’s Docklands Precinct, which was established in 2016. Their barley is sourced from between Hunter Valley in Northern Sydney and the Adelaide Hills. On top of that good quality red wine casks from Victoria are used to mature the whisky. The single malts are aged for less time than standard Scotch as with a warmer climate, the maturation process is affected and has the apparent influence of accelerating it.
