Description
Peterson Standard System Heritage No.309 P-Lip
Introduced in 1896, this large, straight-sided Billiard—also referred to as the large Dutch Billiard—stands as one of the earliest System pipes and remains one of the most recognizable shapes in the range. It gained cultural distinction as the pipe favored by Basil Rathbone in twelve of his Sherlock Holmes films. Embodying the heritage of Peterson from the earliest days of its patented designs, the shape is widely regarded as an iconic and quintessential representation of the brand.

About the series..
Peterson's flagship line, the System Standard stamp first appeared in 1945, but the entry-level design has been a staple in their catalogues since Charles Peterson secured his final patent in 1898. Designed to provide a cooler, drier smoke, each pipe features a deep reservoir within the shank to collect excess moisture; a graduated bore mouthpiece that funnels the smoke and allows moisture to collect within the reservoir; a sturdy nickel military mount, which allows the pipe to be broken down and cleaned without damage or warping; and our patented P-Lip bit, which draws the smoke upward, thus reducing tongue bite. While the P-Lip bit is the traditional choice, the maker also offer System Standard pipes with fishtail stems. Available here in the rich ruby stain of the Heritage finish.
