This distillery is located on the village of Tomnavulin. It was built in 1966 during a period of bonanza for the whisky industry. During that decade demand far outstripped supply and various distilleries were built. Tamnavulin supplied blenders with a light and delicate style of spirit. This distillery met its own malting requirements for some time as it had its own Saladin boxes.
The 1980's crisis in the Scottish economy, and a general decline in demand saw Tamnavulin being mothballed in 1995. The distillery reopened in 2007 under the ownership of Indian grain whisky producers: United Distillers.
The distillery changed hands once again in 2014 when it was sold to Emperador Brands from the Philippines.
In 2016 its first official single malt was launched.
