Caldwell Anastasia - Caspia
Robert Caldwell's fascination with cigars ignited when he ventured into Ernesto Perez-Carrillo's boutique in Little Havana during his tender age of 12. The allure of exquisite craftsmanship, intricate layers, and the elegance woven into the art of cigar making captivated him from the outset. Unbeknownst to him, this enchantment would culminate, two decades later, in the creation of a truly exceptional cigar in collaboration with Ernesto.
Anastasia stands as the crowning jewel of Robert Caldwell's endeavours, a manifestation of his devotion to the realm of premium cigar craftsmanship. This remarkable blend forms the culmination of a circular odyssey, retracing his path through the industry to its inception—a spark of curiosity that germinated into a lifelong dedication.
Though simply christened Anastasia, this cigar represents the fourth instalment under this appellation. Prior renditions donned either blue or green bands, yet this iteration graces the scene with the distinctive Anastasia Yellow Band. Crafted within the Dominican Republic's confines, the exact fusion of factory and blend remains shrouded in the mystique of a closely guarded secret.
The Anastasia Caspia features a nutty brown wrapper with a silky smooth texture and minimal oil presence. It has a slightly spongy feel when squeezed, with a few subtle veins along its length that are not particularly prominent. The wrapper exudes a rich aroma of dark chocolate, nutmeg sweetness, creamy oak, barnyard notes, and peanuts. The cold draw reveals similar flavors, including robust dark chocolate, creamy oak, leather, white pepper, and a hint of floral essence.

The company produces its core line of cigars at Tabacalera William Ventura, situated in the Dominican Republic. Presently, Caldwell's portfolio encompasses more than 10 brands originating from three different countries, and he has gained recognition for his collaborative blending projects with fellow cigar makers. Among his offerings, the Eastern Standard stands out as a smooth and medium-bodied cigar, boasting a lustrous hybrid leaf with a Connecticut Ecuadorian wrapper.
