The Piedra lineage has a historical presence dating back to the 1880s when they migrated to Cuba from the Spanish province of Asturias. Settling in close proximity to the town of Santa Clara, located at the epicenter of the Remedios tobacco region—a locale steeped in a tobacco cultivation tradition spanning back to the 16th century—the Piedra family embarked on their journey of cigar craftsmanship.

The cigars under this brand are hand made using tripa corta (short filler) leaves from the Remedios (formerly known as Vuelta Abajo) region. 

The brand was created by the Piedra family, Spanish settlers from the Asturias region in Spain, in the 1880's. They chose the Santa Clara town, in the heart of the Remedios region, as their operations centre. They probably decided to settle there and engage in the tobacco trade knowing that the crop had been grown there since at least the 16th century. 

The brand that we know today was founded by Jose Lamadrid Piedra.
