Linkwood 9 year old Port + Oloroso + PX Cask Finish Murray McDavid Benchmark Range
Linkwood 9 Year Old Port + Oloroso + PX Cask Finish is a remarkable expression from the Murray McDavid Benchmark Range. This single malt whisky is crafted with utmost care and attention to detail, resulting in a truly exquisite drinking experience. The whisky begins its maturation journey in traditional oak casks, absorbing the rich flavors and characteristics they offer. It is then transferred to carefully selected Port, Oloroso, and Pedro Ximénez (PX) casks for a finishing period, which imparts an additional layer of complexity and depth to the spirit.
The nine years of aging have allowed the whisky to develop a smooth and well-rounded profile. On the nose, enticing aromas of ripe berries, dark chocolate, and dried fruits mingle with hints of oak and spice. The palate offers a delightful combination of sweet notes from the Port and PX casks, including luscious berries, figs, and raisins, complemented by the rich, nutty flavors of Oloroso sherry. The influence of the oak casks adds a touch of vanilla and warm spices, further enhancing the overall flavor profile. The finish is long and satisfying, leaving a lingering sweetness on the palate with a gentle hint of oak.
LINKWOOD DISTILLERY
Linkwood distillery is located close to Elgin in the Speyside. It was built in 1821 but only started operations in 1824 once the Excise Act 1823 was enacted. The distillery operated under the management of an appointed master distiller until the death of the founder Peter Brown. His son William Brown took control of the distillery immediately after his death.
The distillery was rebuilt between 1872 and 1873 and the production capacity was increased. The distillery operated independently until William Brown's death. His family formed the Linkwood-Glenlivet Co. after his passing and expanded the production capacity once more. Innes Cameron, who went on to become the largest shareholder at Linkwood-Glenlivet, joined the company in 1902.
