Yes we know, the smoking ban in Scotland is a blanket ban. It has its advantages of course the ban has made pubs enjoyable places where a meal can be enjoyed without unwanted smoke spoiling it. However, unlike England, Germany, Switzerland and other European countries no cigar friendly venues are allowed in Scotland.
When the weather is good, we get asked the following question here at Jeffrey street: Where can I enjoy a good drink and a cigar in Edinburgh? While indoor smoking areas are not allowed, we found some comfortable, cosy and dry spots. These are the best venues in town where to enjoy a cigar and a good drink:
The Glasshouse Hotel
Situated next to the Omni centre, the rooftop terrace offers a stylish and elegant setting where cigars, fine whisky and cocktails can be enjoyed. The view overlooks Leith, Portobello and Calton Hill. We definitely recommend a classic negroni or an old fashioned with a Montecristo No. 4.

The Place Hotel
Situated on York Place, this unassuming building hides one of Edinburgh's best smoking areas. The terrace, at the back of the hotel, is smartly seated and the decor is top class. If you visit this place during the colder months the terrace has great garden heaters that will keep you warm and cosy. The bites menu offers a great variety of canapes and sandwiches.

The Sheraton Hotel
Located close to Edinburgh's West End the smoking area is located at the front entrance of the hotel. The seating is comfortable and the drinks list is extensive. The next time you fancy a nice glass of champagne or a cheeky cognac, make sure you stop by The Sheraton.

Hotel Du Vin
This is probably the city's most famous smoking area. If wine is your thing, this place has an extensive wine list with wines from all over the world. After you enjoyed a stick or two you can even have a fine meal at the brasserie. The cigar bothy will keep you dry if it's raining and warm if it is cold.

Crowne Plaza Hotel (Royal Terrace)
This hotel has a newly renovated smoking area and its gardens are gorgeous. The gardens are a quiet and relaxing space where you can enjoy a cigar and a beer at ease.

Cold Town House (Grassmarket)
This is the newest venue in Edinburgh and is already among our favourite venues. This bar offers a great selection of craft beers, a wide range of prosecco by the glass and tasty bites. The best part is, its terrace and its stunning views, you could site there for hours enjoying a big fat cigar and the view.
