The Benriach distillery, situated in close proximity to Elgin, was established by the same individuals responsible for the nearby Longmorn distillery. Following its construction, the distillery faced closure merely two years later amid the Pattison crisis. For a span of 65 years, the distillery remained dormant, with its maltings utilized to supply the Longmorn distillery.
In 1965, the distillery underwent a revival, primarily focusing on producing spirit for blends. Following subsequent changes in ownership, the Benriach Distillery Company Limited acquired the establishment, leading to heightened recognition among discerning whisky enthusiasts. Notably, in 2016, Brown-Forman acquired Benriach, along with Glenglassaugh and Glendronach distilleries.
The distinctive style of spirit crafted at Benriach is characterized by its predominantly fruity profile, a result of employing medium-sized pot stills and a brief fermentation period.
