Glasgow 1770 Constantia Wine Cask Finish
This five-year-old release marks the first use of Constantia sweet dessert wine casks from South Africa, offering an exceptional expression of the brand’s unpeated, double-distilled single malt whisky. Initially matured in first-fill ex-bourbon casks, the whisky has been finished for one year and ten months in Constantia wine barriques. The resulting spirit presents a refined palate of fresh apricot, peach, pink grapefruit, and clementine, complemented by notes of rich manuka honey and dark chocolate.
Glasgow Distillery Co
The Glasgow Distillery Co was established in 2013 becoming the first distillery in the City of Glasgow for over 100 years. The craft of distillation is not however new to this part of Scotland. In 1770 Glasgow was a thriving hub for business and trade and it was then when the original Glasgow Distillery was established in Dundashills.
Records form that time shows that there were well over 150 "licenced" distilleries in Scotland with many more illicit ones. In 1825 the Glasgow Distillery Company took over the stills st Dundashills and for number of years ahead the distillery operated under different guises. In 1899 a number of stills were increased to expand production however following the great depression, prohibition and two world wars the distillery closed its doors for ever.
In 2011 the 'founding partners' envisaged an opportunity to build a brand new distillery in the heart of Glasgow with the idea to produce high quality malt whisky and premium gin. Today their first Glasgow gin is making its presence felt on the Scottish market and abroad.
